South Hadley, MA --- All-Conference performances from junior
Bethany Brown (Allentown, PA) and freshman
Caetlyn Embree (Sherborn, CT) led the way as the WPI women's track and field team wrapped up competition in fifth place at the 2025 NEWMAC Championships Saturday at Mount Holyoke's Kendall Sports & Dance Complex.
Brown earned All-Conference honors with a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 1:06.73. Junior
Bailey Allmon (Woodbine, MD) also turned in a strong showing, placing fourth in the event with a personal-best time of 1:08.32.
Embree delivered a standout performance in the heptathlon, finishing second overall to earn All-Conference honors. She highlighted her weekend with a win in the long jump (4.84m) and runner-up finishes in both the 100-meter hurdles (17.16) and the 800 meters (2:36.74). Junior
Lauren Coutu (Baldwinville, MA) added a fourth-place overall finish in the heptathlon, winning the javelin throw (29.38m) and taking third in the high jump (1.38m). Freshman
Emma Conway (Suffield, CT) placed fifth overall in the multi-event competition.
Senior
Olivia Spielberger (Hingham, MA) picked up six points in the triple jump, leaping to a huge personal-best mark of 11.47m to finish third.
Freshman
Rayna Thompson (Brentwood, NH) scored three points for WPI with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.54), advancing to the final after Friday's prelims. Thompson also competed in the 200 meters, running 26.32.
Junior
Sophia Reynolds (Andover, NH) earned two points in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a seventh-place time of 11:43.23. Freshman
Catherine Daly (Groton, MA) recorded a personal-best 11:59.72 to finish ninth. Senior
Elie Bowman (Oakdale, CT) placed 11th in the 5000 meters (18:47.38), and senior
Rachel Hurley (Peterborough, NH) was 13th in the 1500 meters (5:14.88).
In the field events, freshman
Catherine Polo (Huntingtown, MD) finished ninth in the shot put (9.89m) and 11th in the discus (28.79m). Freshman
Sydney Shilts (Flemington, NJ) placed 12th in the hammer throw with a toss of 33.88m.
Junior
Lydia Beers (Norfolk, CT) finished 10th in the long jump (4.86m), while Spielberger also added a 14th-place finish in the event (4.73m). In the pole vault, sophomore
Drew Perry (North Andover, MA) cleared 2.95m to place 10th, and sophomore
Charly Painter (Littleton, MA) finished 11th at 2.80m.
Senior
Lauren Mitcheson (West Bridgewater, MA) added three points for WPI with a sixth-place finish in the 400 meters (1:00.12).
In the relays, the 4x100-meter team of junior
Corryn Fisher (Swansea, MA), Mitcheson, freshman
Julia Fronc (Plaistow, NH), and Thompson placed eighth in 50.68. The 4x400-meter relay team of Brown, Mitcheson, Fronc, and Thompson finished seventh with a time of 4:11.12.
Up next for the Engineers, qualified student-athletes will shift their focus to the 2025 New England Division III Championships, set for May 2-3 at Coast Guard in New London, CT.
