Springfield, MA --- The WPI men's track and field team delivered a commanding performance on Sunday, winning the team title at the Springfield College Outdoor Invite.
The Engineers picked up 10 event victories and swept both relays, racking up 279.5 points, nearly doubling the total of second-place Springfield (199) in the nine-team meet.
The WPI sprint group accounted for a host of points, led by junior
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA), who won the 100-meter dash in a personal-best 10.86 seconds, the fourth-fastest time in program history, and placed fourth in the 200 (22.40). Sophomore
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA) followed in second in the 100 with a PR of 10.93 (No. 6 all-time) and took sixth in the 200 (22.85), while freshman
Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, NH) was fifth in the 200 (22.65). Freshman
Justin Serrecchia (Lakeville, MA) and sophomore
Ajay Bellamy (Stratford, CT) added fifth (11.11) and seventh (11.23) in the 100, with Serrecchia also placing seventh in the 200 (22.86). Graduate-student
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT) won the 200-meter dash in 22.27.
The 4x100-meter relay of Manteria, Andrew, Cole, and Schnyer clocked a blistering 41.46, tying the school record set in 2019.
WPI also dominated the 4x400-meter relay. The "A" team of

In the mid-distance and distance events, graduate-student
Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) swept the 800 (1:59.89) and 1500 meters (3:59.47), leading a deep group in the longer event. Mosher (4:00.09), senior
Ryan Fischer (Merrimack, NH),
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH), and
Jarrett Gulden (Walpole, ME) placed 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 8th, respectively. In the steeplechase, freshmen
Drew O'Reilly (Syracuse, NY) and
Colin Britner (Hampton, CT) finished first and second with matching New England DIII qualifying times of 9:43.61 and 9:43.81.
Sophomore
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT) scored in all three throws, winning the discus (42.34m), taking second in the shot put (13.94m), and placing third in the hammer (41.66m). Sophomore
Michael Zuo (Worcester, MA) claimed victory in the shot put (14.19m), and freshman
John Cummings (Dallas, PA) added a trio of top-five finishes: 2nd in shot put (13.31m), 5th in hammer (37.54m), and 5th in discus (38.95m). Senior
Michael Neff (West Hartford, CT) won the javelin with a 53.56m throw, and sophomore
Matt Richards (Peabody, MA) was runner-up at 49.45m.
In the jumps, junior
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) placed second in both the high jump (1.95m) and triple jump (13.06m), with senior
Matthew Catuccio (Trumbull, CT) and senior
Jack Adiletta (Bolton, MA) adding fourth-place finishes in the high jump (1.85m) and triple jump (11.76m), respectively. In the pole vault, junior
Gavin Fleck (Bend, OR) cleared 4.70m to win, with graduate-student
Chris Nguyen (Tewksbury, MA) placing fourth (3.80m), freshman
Ethan Ramirez (Burlington, CT) sixth (3.35m), and Bellamy taking fifth (3.35m).
In the 400-meter dash, D'Amour placed second (50.57), Minichiello was fifth (52.98), and freshman
Will Kelley (Medford, MA) placed eighth (53.75). The Engineers swept the top two spots in the 400-meter hurdles, with Larsen running 55.40 (fifth-best time in school history) and Burrell close behind in 55.91 (eighth-best all-time). Freshman
Colin Squier (Douglas, MA) added a seventh-place finish (1:10.20).
WPI returns to action next week with a full schedule at UMass Amherst. Competition begins Wednesday and Thursday with the two-day UMass Amherst Multi Meet, followed by a full team appearance on Saturday at the Commonwealth Invitational.
