Geneva, OH --- The WPI 4x100m relay foursome of
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA),
Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, NH),
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA), and
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT) competed Thursday in the preliminaries of the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by the North Coast Athletic Conference at the SPIRE Institute just outside of Cleveland, Ohio.
Racing out of lane nine in the first of two heats, the Engineers delivered a time of 41.18 through drizzle and breezy conditions and placed fifth of eight schools. With the top two from each heat along with the next five fastest times qualifying for Saturday's finals. WPI then watched the clock in heat two but did not advance as the four of the next five fastest times came from second heat however the four earned second team All-America status from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The finals will feature each heat winner - UW-La Crosse (39.77) and Rowan (39.97), both runner-ups McMurry (40.37) and St. John's (40.28), as well as RPI (40.32), UW-Whitewater (40.55), Bethel (40.62), UW- Eau Claire (40.72) and Susquehanna (40.84).
Worcester's Engineers secured a spot in field championships the final day of competition on Thursday, May 15th by obliterating their own school record in a time of 40.66 at the UMass Amherst Final Qualifier.
Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) will take center stage from the Crimson and Gray on Saturday. The graduate student will compete in the 5,000 meters at 4pm in his first appearance at an NCAA Track and Field Championship after participating in a pair of NCAA Cross Country Championships.
