New London, CT --- The foursome of
Sam Manteria (Wilbraham, MA),
Ethan Schnyer (Nashua, NH),
Alex Cole (Weymouth, MA) and
Tristan Andrew (Newtown, CT) established a new facility record en route to capturing the 4x100 relay at the New England Division III Track and Field Championships hosted by Coast Guard on Friday and Saturday.
The Engineers racked up 65.5 points to earn an impressive third place finish at the event. It equaled the second best showing at the meet for WPI, which won the event in 1987. Wesleyan (80) edged Tufts (74.5) to take home the team title.
Cole and Andrew also earned All-New England in individual events. Cole clocked a 10.72 to place third in the 100 meters while Andrew was fourth in 200 meters in a time 21.50. Manteria and Schnyer also performed well in the 200, placing 15th (22.01) and 16th (22.02) respectively while Manteria was 12th (10.88) in the 100 and
Justin Serrecchia (Lakeville, MA) finished 16th (10.96) and
Ajay Bellamy (Stratford, CT) 18th (10.09).
On the distance side,
Avinash Bissoondial (Millbury, MA) and
Everett Mosher (Chester, VT) delivered in a stacked 1500-meter field. Bissoondial ran a season-best to finish second overall, narrowly missing a repeat title, while Mosher ran a lifetime best to claim third. The duo later teamed with
Brendan May (Rutland, MA) and
Alden Betterley (Bow, NH) in the 4x800-meter relay, which placed second.
WPI's javelin squad enjoyed a breakthrough meet, with all four entries advancing to the final and recording personal bests.
Matt Richards (Peabody, MA) led the way with a massive PR of 60.41 meters to place fourth -- ranking him 21st nationally in NCAA Division III. He was joined in All-New England distinction by
Lucas Anthony (Lincoln, MA) (6th - 58.57m) and
Ben Furman (Groton, MA) (8th - 57.68m), while
Michael Neff (West Hartford, CT) was ninth (57.64m).
In the hurdles,
Daniel Kim (Orange, CT) clocked 15.27 in the 110-meter prelims, narrowly missing the final. He bounced back in the 400-meter hurdles, where he and
Will Larsen (Chelmsford, MA) each posted personal bests to place fourth (54.87) and seventh (54.99) respectively, both earning All-New England honors.
Theo Burrell (East Haddam, CT) notched a 16th place time of 56.30 while
Colin Squier (Douglas, MA) was 22nd (57.31).
In the throws,
Ethan Anderson (North Haven, CT), the 2025 NEWMAC Field Athlete of the Year, set a personal best in the hammer (47.02m) but did not advance to the final. He returned to place sixth in the discus (43.81m), scoring valuable points for the Engineers.
Brett Gerlach (Lock Haven, PA) posted a strong showing the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters to finish fourth overall and earn All-New England recognition while the 4x400 relay of Kim,
Koray Boybeyi (Reston, VA)
Anthony Minichiello (Burlington, MA),
Gabriel D'Amour (Somers, CT) closed the meet with a 12th-place showing in the 4x400 relay in a time of 3:26.01
Select members of the Engineers will continue their season at one of two two-day meets next weekend. UMass Amherst will host the 2025 NEICAAA Outdoor Championships while the Farley Inter Regional Extravaganza Meet will be contested at Williams.
