Myles Lakin (Reading, MA) was selected as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week ending on August 31st.
Joining Lakin in the weekly honors was Penny Baroni of Babson who was selected as the NEWMAC's Offensive Athlete of the Week.
Lakin anchored the Crimson and Gray defense with back-to-back standout performances to open the 2025 campaign. The sophomore goalie made seven saves in Friday's 2-0 win at Roger Williams, five of which came during a first-quarter surge by the Hawks, before turning in another seven-save showing on Sunday at the University of New England where timely stops, including several on penalty corners, ensured a 1-0 WPI victory. Lakin closed the opening week with no goals against, two shutouts, and a perfect save percentage as the Engineers outscored their opponents, 3-0.
This week's honor marks the first of the season for the Crimson and Gray as the most recent was teammate
Lauren Meinhold who claimed the offensive honor in the last week of the regular season in 2024.
WPI (2-0) extends their road contests with a trip to Wesleyan on Wednesday, September 3rd, for a non-conference tilt scheduled for 6:30pm.
