Senior Day with Parents-WPI Swimming & Diving-2025-2026

Women's Swimming and Diving Celebrates it Seniors on Final Day of Menck Invitational

Senior Day - WPI Swimming & Diving
WORCESTER -- Day two of the 2026 Menck Sprints saw a cold and windy morning in Worcester, but the action in the pool was anything but as WPI played host to both Roger Williams and Amherst, the latter of whom joined in on the fun for the second day, after the first day was contested in Bristol, Rhode Island at Roger Williams Pool.

The session started off with a recognition of the seniors from both opposing teams before WPI took the time to recognize its four senior swimmers. Ally Giovenco (Alexandria, VA), Kaitlyn Grove (Cheshire, CT), Chloe Johnson (Rosemount, NM), and Rachel Tsang (Acton, MA) were all honored by the team with a fog machine walk-out, posters and gifts from their teammates.

The quartet swam the 100 free relay together, with the senior class placing fourth with a time of 49.33, being beaten out by Amherst's A Relay as well as by WPI's B and A relays, which comprised entirely of all first years and all sophomores, with the bragging rights falling to the first-years who out-touched their elders 47.93 to 48.19. The Junior class, however, got the most applause and acclaim as Katrina Waite (Falmouth, ME) swam the event by herself, taking on each leg of the race from a diving start.

Grove was a strong presence on relays, as in addition to her fourth place finish in the 100 free relay, she was also on the 4th place finishing 200 free relay and 5th place finishing 200 Medley relay. However, in the 100 Medley Relay, she, along with Maria Korneva (Boylston, MA), Audrey Cook (Wakefield, MA) and Sophie Robinson (Westboro, MA) topped the field as their B Relay took the win in 51.07, .09 ahead of Amherst's A Relay and .11 ahead of WPI's B relay, which was led off by fellow senior Tsang. Teammates for four years, Grove and Tsang were inseparable in the 50 fly as the pair touched the wall in an equal 5th place time of 27.98.

Giovenco and Johnson, too, had strong final performances in their home pool as Giovenco hit a new season best in the 200 breast, placing 8th overall at 2:46.26, an event which saw first-year Jasmine Lam take the win in 2:28.76. Johnson, who started her career with the Engineers more as butterflier, has transitioned into a strong backstroker, with the senior setting a new personal best by over a second in the 100, as she eclipsed her previous best f 1:07.16 from last night, with a 1:05.84 win in the 100 back B-final.

In addition to her win in the 200 breaststroke, Lam added another win to her collection as she used a strong back half to storm to the win in the 100 breast, with her 1:09.30 winning by .27.  Korneva also collected a win as her 28.59 topped the field in the 50 back. Mallory LaPointe (St. John's FL), who had a full slate of events on the day, led a 1-2 finish in the 500 free, as her 5:22.15 earned her top honors ahead of fellow first-year Cook, who touched for 2nd in 5:33.55.

LaPointe doubled up on her victories a little later as she won the 100 IM in 1:03.56, with Cook taking 3rd in 1:04.40.While the 500 was a strong showing for the team, it was nothing compared to the 25 free, which saw the Engineers occupy the top 4 spots, led by Waite's 11.99.  A similar result to the 25 breaststroke which this time saw Cook occupying the top spot with the Engineers again going 1-2-3-4. The last two individual events of the session saw Allie Marvell (Manchester, NH) and Amber Jacobs (Cedar Falls, IA) cruise their way to the win in the 400 IM and 1000 free respectively.

With the conclusion of the Menck Sprints, WPI has wrapped up its regular season schedule, as the team now prepares for either the GNAC Championships, set to be held here in Worcester in two weeks time, or at the NEWMAC Championships host by MIT at the end of February.
