Zawacki Knocks in Seven as Baseball Outlasts Roger Williams, 18-12

Bristol, RI --- Behind a seven-RBI day from Jack Zawacki (Pittsford, NY), WPI outslugged Roger Williams 18-12 Thursday afternoon in a game called after eight innings because of darkness.

WPI improves to 12-15 overall, while Roger Williams falls to 12-13.

The Engineers wasted little time building a lead, scoring four times in the opening inning. Jonathan Lattimer (Windsor, CT) delivered a two-run single before Matt Shea (Salem, NH) added a sacrifice fly and James DiGiovanni (Kennebunk, ME) chipped in an RBI single.

WPI added four more runs in the second as Zawacki doubled home two runs, later scored on a wild pitch and DiGiovanni brought home another run on an error. Zawacki then struck again in the third, launching a three-run homer to left to push the advantage to 11-1.

Roger Williams answered with three runs in the third and two more in the fourth, fueled by Sam Arcieri (Westwood, NJ), who delivered a two-run single in each inning. The Hawks made it a one-run game in the fifth with six runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Luke Miele (Wellesley, MA), another two-run hit from Arcieri and an RBI double by Chris Faraca (Peabody, MA).

The Engineers responded immediately in the sixth. Zawacki doubled home two more runs before Lattimer added a sacrifice fly and Zachary Roethlein (Pomfret Center, CT) stole home to make it 17-12. Liam Keblin (Newton, MA) added an RBI double in the seventh for the final margin.

Zawacki finished 3-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, seven RBI and four runs scored. Lattimer went 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored, while Jacob Wiberg (Exeter, NH) collected three hits and an RBI. Keblin scored three times and added a pair of hits, while DiGiovanni drove in three runs.
For Roger Williams, Arcieri went 3-for-4 with six RBI, while Miele collected three hits and two RBI.

On the mound, Luke Blandino (Eden, NY) earned the win with three innings of scoreless relief, allowing one hit while striking out six. Ethan Smith (Hanson, MA) started and struck out five over four innings, while Sean Murphy (East Taunton, MA) and Andrew Burke (Walpole, MA) also saw time on the mound.

For the Hawks, Nolan Niziol (Sparta, NJ) took the loss after allowing seven runs in 1.1 innings.

WPI heads to Clark on Saturday for a NEWMAC doubleheader beginning at 11am. Roger Williams returns to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Gordon.
