WORCESTER --
Jack Zawacki (Pittsford, NY) had five hits and four runs scored while
James DiGiovanni (Kennebunk, ME) drove in three runs in the opener as WPI split a NEWMAC baseball doubleheader with Clark Saturday at Granger Field. WPI rolled to a 15-5 victory in game one before Clark answered with a 9-5 win in the nightcap.

WPI is now 14-16 overall and 3-9 in NEWMAC play, while Clark moves to 17-13 overall and 5-6 in conference action.

The Engineers piled up 23 hits across the twinbill. Zawacki went 5-for-10 with four runs scored and three RBI on the day, while
Zachary Roethlein (Pomfret Center, CT) added five hits and three RBI.
Miles Pratt (Hampton, NH) totaled four hits, two RBI and three runs scored, while
Jonathan Lattimer (Windsor, CT) drove in three runs.
Chuck Cappello (Southboro, MA) collected three hits and two RBI over the two games. On the mound,
Jacob Wiberg (Exeter, NH) struck out eight over five innings to earn the game
one victory.

Game #1
WPI grabbed the lead in the opener in the second when DiGiovanni lifted a sacrifice fly to score Lattimer.
The Crimson and Gray stretched the margin to 4-0 in the fourth. Zawacki doubled to open the inning before Roethlein and Lattimer followed with RBI singles. DiGiovanni then delivered a two-run single to center.
Clark got two runs back on a
Cole Camara (Oak Bluffs, MA) homer in the bottom of the fourth, but WPI broke the game open with a six-run fifth. Zawacki drove in two with a single before Lattimer added a sacrifice fly,
Matt Shea (Salem, NH) brought home a run on a groundout and Pratt capped the frame with an RBI single.

The Cougars scored three times in the sixth to trim the deficit to 11-5, highlighted by a two-run homer from
Dom Mariani (Plymouth, MA), but WPI answered with four runs in the seventh.
Greyson Baldizar (Seekonk, MA) tripled home DiGiovanni before Pratt singled him in, and Roethlein added a two-run single later in the inning.
Zawacki finished game one 4-for-5 with four runs scored and two RBI. Roethlein went 3-for-5 with two RBI, DiGiovanni was 2-for-2 with three RBI and Pratt was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Wiberg improved to 3-2 after allowing five runs while striking out eight in five innings.
Brian Riley (Portland, ME) closed it out with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Game #2
Clark took control early in game two, scoring twice in the first after a WPI error and adding two more in the second on RBI hits from
Bennett Hewett (Braintree, MA) and Mariani.

The Cougars extended the lead to 6-0 in the fifth before the Engineers rallied in the sixth. WPI drew four straight walks to open the inning and scored four times on RBI walks by Cappello, Zawacki and Roethlein plus a sacrifice fly from Lattimer.

Clark answered immediately in the bottom of the inning when
Michael Salzillo (North Reading, MA) tripled home
Chas Caron (Leominster, MA), then pushed the lead to 8-5 on a solo homer from
Michael Soares (Milford, MA) in the seventh.

WPI got back within two in the top of the seventh as Cappello singled home Pratt, but Clark added an insurance run in the eighth and
Jacob Kline (Wallingford, CT) tossed two scoreless innings to close out the win.

Cappello went 2-for-5 with two RBI in the second game while Roethlein was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Pratt scored twice and
Liam Keblin (Newton, MA) added a hit and a run scored.
WPI returns to action Tuesday at Coast Guard at 3:30pm. Clark is back on the field Tuesday at Emerson at 3:30pm.
