WORCESTER -- WPI women's rowing's varsity eight competed for the Jennifer McLaughlin Cup against three ranked programs in racing on a pleasant Saturday morning as the Engineers made their spring debut on Lake Quinsigamond.
The Engineers placed fourth in the varsity eight as WPI reached the finish line in a time of 6.59.7. 12th-ranked Colby won the face, reaching Regatta Point in 6:43.50, besting a pair of programs slotted ahead of them in the Pocock CRCA Division III Top 15 and schools that competed in the 2025 NCAA Championships last spring. No. 4 Smith was second, clocking a 6:45.89 while sixth-ranked Wesleyan posted a time of 6:47.43 to finish third.
It was the Cardinals that captured their third consecutive McLaughlin Cup over the host Crimson and Gray. It marked the fourth time in six years that Wesleyan bested the Engineers for prestigious cup.
Wesleyan was victorious in the other two races. In the second varsity eight. the Cardinals (6:57.20) were 10 seconds ahead of second place Smith (7:07.2). Colby (7:19.80) was third and WPI (7:38.01) fourth. Wesleyan also took gold in the 3V, clocking a time of 7:00.3. Smith went back-to-back in the next two slots with the Pioneers A entry (7:08.6) placing second and B boat (7:12.9) finished third while Colby (7:19.8) was fourth.
