Northboro, MA --- The WPI baseball team dropped a non-conference contest to Roger Williams, 13-8, on Wednesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex. The Engineers move to 10-12 on the season, while the Hawks improve to 9-12.

Roger Williams built a large early lead, scoring 12 runs over the first three innings, before WPI mounted a late push with five runs across the final two frames.
Â
Drew Herlin (Wrentham, MA) paced the Engineers offensively with three hits and an RBI, while
Jack Zawacki (Pittsford, NY) added two hits and three RBI.
Jonathan Lattimer (Windsor, CT) chipped in two hits and a sacrifice fly, and
Greyson Baldizar (Seekonk, MA) scored twice and drove in a run.

Robert Runge (Manasquan, NJ) took the loss, allowing five runs in the opening inning.
Damon Chase (Rye, NH),
Andrew Burke (Walpole, MA),
Douglas George (Dorchester, MA) all worked scoreless innings in relief.

Roger Williams was led by
Sam Arcieri (Westwood, NJ), who went 2-for-6 with three RBI, and
Casey DeLorenzo (East Greenwich, RI), who added two hits and two RBI.
Will Florio (San Jose, CA) launched a three-run home run, while
Jack Tubman (Bellingham, MA) added a solo homer.
Dylan Brenner (Andover, MA) earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings.

The Hawks jumped out to a fast start in the first inning, scoring five runs highlighted by a two-run double from Arcieri and RBI hits from DeLorenzo and Tubman. They added another run in the second on an RBI double from
Braden Ventura (Swansea, MA).

Roger Williams broke the game open in the third, as Tubman led off with a home run before Arcieri and DeLorenzo added RBI hits. Florio capped the inning with a three-run homer to extend the lead to 12-1.

WPI got on the board in the second on a sacrifice fly from Baldizar and added two runs in the fourth on a two-run single by Zawacki.

After a scoreless stretch from the bullpen, Roger Williams pushed its lead to 13-3 in the seventh on a wild pitch.

The Engineers chipped away late, scoring twice in the eighth on an error and a sacrifice fly from Lattimer. WPI added three more in the ninth, with runs driven in by
Chuck Cappello (Southboro, MA) and Zawacki on fielder's choices before Herlin delivered an RBI double to cap the scoring.

WPI returns to action Thursday with a non-conference matchup at UMass Dartmouth at 3:30pm, while Roger Williams travels to Gordon for a conference doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11:00am.
