WORCESTER — WPI baseball graduate student Brian Riley (Portland, ME) garnered postseason recognition from the conference office on Wednesday morning as the right-handed pitcher was selected to the 2026 NEWMAC Baseball All-Conference Second Team as All-Conference teams and major awards are voted on by the league's nine head coaches following the completion of the regular season.
Salve Regina collected four of the conference's major awards as Shane Williams was voted Player of the Year, Nolan Romanowski earned Pitcher of the Year honors and Grady Schopps was selected as Defensive Player of the Year. MIT's Brayden Lewis was named Rookie of the Year, while Salve Regina's coaching staff garnered Coaching Staff of the Year accolades after leading the Seahawks to the NEWMAC regular season championship.
Riley emerged as one of the top relievers in the conference this spring, posting a team-best 1.90 earned run average across 16 appearances while helping anchor the WPI bullpen throughout the season. Riley compiled a 2-0 record with a save over 23.2 innings, allowing opponents to hit just .222 against him while striking out 22 batters.
Among WPI pitchers with at least 20 innings pitched, Riley led the Engineers in ERA and opponent batting average while surrendering just five earned runs all season and he also limited opposing hitters to four extra-base hits and did not allow a home run during the 2026 campaign.
Riley joined Salve Regina's Joe DeRienzo, Springfield's Josh Mayo and Wheaton's Aiden Cardoza as second team pitching selections.
