Baseball Secures Five on College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team

WORCESTER --- Five members of the WPI baseball program earned 2025-26 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors as announced by the organization recently. Seniors Jacob Wiberg (Exeter, NH), Jonathan Lattimer (Windsor, CT), Jack Zawacki (Pittsford, NY) and Zachary Roethlein (Pomfret Center, CT), along with sophomore Chuck Cappello (Southboro, MA), represented the Engineers on the academic squad.

Wiberg, a computer science major with a 3.91 cumulative GPA, anchored the WPI pitching staff throughout the spring. The senior right-hander made nine starts and posted a team-best 59 strikeouts across 50.2 innings while adding three victories on the mound. Opponents hit just .236 against Wiberg during the 2026 campaign. At the plate, he also contributed offensively with a .278 batting average, 30 hits, 17 RBI and nine stolen bases in 37 starts. Wiberg additionally becomes a repeat CSC Academic All-District selection after earning the honor during the 2025 season as well.

Lattimer earned the accolade as a mechanical engineering major carrying a 3.63 cumulative GPA. The senior infielder started all 26 games he appeared in and batted .286 with 26 hits, 22 RBI and 19 runs scored. Defensively, Lattimer recorded a .969 fielding percentage and helped turn a team-high 14 double plays during the season.  

Zawacki garnered Academic All-District recognition with a 3.87 cumulative GPA in electrical and computer engineering. The senior outfielder ranked among the Engineers' top offensive performers, batting .303 with 40 hits, 12 doubles, three home runs and 25 RBI while scoring 28 runs. Zawacki also posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield across 49 defensive chances.  

Roethlein collected the honor while majoring in aerospace engineering and maintaining a 3.54 cumulative GPA. The senior infielder started all 33 games he appeared in and ranked second on the team with a .333 batting average. Roethlein totaled 42 hits, eight doubles, 28 runs scored and 17 RBI while successfully swiping 13 bases in 13 attempts during the spring.  

Cappello rounded out the honorees for the Crimson and Gray. The sophomore business major posted a 3.83 cumulative GPA while starting all 36 games for the Engineers during the 2026 campaign. Cappello emerged as one of WPI's top everyday contributors, hitting .315 with 41 hits, 32 runs scored, 21 RBI and 13 stolen bases. Defensively, the sophomore infielder led the Engineers with 92 assists while helping turn 19 double plays.  

The 2025-26 CSC Academic All-District Baseball teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with Academic All-America selections scheduled to be announced on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects of the Academic All-America programs.
