Wrestling Lands Pair on All-NEWA Honorable Mention Team; 25 Engineers Earn NEWA All-Academic Honors

WORCESTER — WPI wrestling seniors Charlie Pavis (Bethlehem, PA) and Joseph Bernard (Stratham, NH) garnered 2025-26 All-New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Honorable Mention accolades, while 25 members of the Crimson and Gray earned recognition on the NEWA All-Academic Team, as announced recently.    

Pavis, a team captain for the Engineers, secured All-NEWA Honorable Mention recognition after another strong season competing in the lower weights for the Crimson and Gray. The senior management engineering major also earned his first career NCAA Division III Scholar All-America honor from the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) after posting a 16-6 record capped by a fourth-place showing at the NCAA regional tournament.

Bernard also collected All-NEWA honorable mention distinction following a standout campaign in the upper weights, continuing to establish himself among the region's top wrestlers. The junior biochemistry major earned his second consecutive NWCA Scholar All-America accolade after compiling a 23-11 record and placing sixth at the NCAA Region 1 Tournament while maintaining a 3.86 cumulative GPA.

The Engineers once again demonstrated their success in the classroom as 25 wrestlers were named to the NEWA All-Academic Team, which recognizes student-athletes who meet the association's academic and competitive standards throughout the season.  

WPI's NEWA All-Academic selections included seniors Ryan Addeche (Foxboro, MA), Trevor Bowen(Frenchtown, NJ), Pavis, and Theo Sawyers (Boston, MA); juniors Joey Baisley (Charlotte, NC), Mason Basara(Bethlehem, PA), Bernard, Jerry Hill (Bethel, CT), Lucas Marchese (Branchburg, NJ), Mason Medina (Orlando, FL), and Bud West (Concord, MA); sophomores Logan Jacques (Hudson, NH), Gavin Luciano (Norton, MA), Alex McKenzie (San Anselmo, CA), Michael McNulty (Manasquan, NJ), Sam Rodrigues (Lincoln, RI), Reese Titus (Canton, CT), Jackson Willi (Delmar, NY), Kyle Rodrigues (Ludlow, MA), and Nick Laskowski (Kerhonkson, NY); and freshmen Luke Coelho (Belmont, MA), Sean Keady (Natick, MA), David Parrish (McDonough, GA), Joel Puri (Milford, MA), and Brendan Woytowich (Coxsackie, NY).    

As a team, the Crimson and Gray continued their tradition of academic excellence by earning a No. 13 ranking in the NWCA Division III Scholar Team Top 30 with a 3.679 team GPA.

The NEWA also announced its annual end-of-season award winners, with Williams' Peter Kane earning Wrestler of the Year honors and Johnson & Wales' Nico Rivera being selected as Rookie of the Year. 

Springfield's Jake Deguire was named Most Dominant Wrestler, while Wesleyan's Hayden Myers collected Scholar Athlete of the Year recognition. Springfield head coach Jason Holder earned Coach of the Year accolades, and the Springfield College staff was tabbed Assistant/Staff of the Year. 

The Crimson and Gray wrapped up the 2025-26 season with an 8-9 dual meet record highlighted by Bernard and Pavis' podium finishes at the NCAA regional meet.
