Box Score
Worcester, MA -- Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA)
netted a pair of goals just over two minutes apart late in the
first half to propel WPI to a 2-1 victory over visiting Clark in
NEWMAC field hockey action on Saturday evening. The Engineers are
now 10-3 on the season and 2-2 in NEWMAC play while Clark dips to
2-8 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Clark got on the board first when Lauren Blake
(Oakland, ME) found the back of the net following a Brooke
Osgood (Clifton Park, NY) pass just 12:25 into the
contest.
WPI mustered an offensive onslaught in the waning moments of the
first half. Maglione took a feed from Jenelle Pope
(Sterling, MA) on a penalty corner and deposited her seventh goal
of the year at 29:39. Just 2:09 later, Maglione closed out the
scoring on an assist from Kelly Johnson (Buxton,
ME) with 3:12 remaining in the half.
Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) picked up the win
in goal for WPI to improve to 7-2. Kaitlin Kelley
(Guilford, CT) was stellar in net for the Cougars. She made six
stops on the night, including an outstanding kick save of a Johnson
blast midway through the second half.
Both teams will return to action on Tuesday evening with contests
versus NEWMAC frontrunners. WPI will travel to Springfield while
Clark entertains Wheaton at 7pm. Both the Pride and the Lyons are
atop the NEWMAC with 4-0 records.
