WPI Field Hockey Improves to 8-2 with Victory over Becker

Worcester, MA --- Sarah Tracy (Oakland, ME) potted a pair of goals and Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) added a goal and two assists as WPI defeated Becker 5-0 in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday evening. With the win, the Engineers improve to 8-2 on the season.

Tracy gave WPI a quick 2-0 lead when she netted her fourth and fifth goals of the season just 11 minutes into the match. The Crimson and Gray extended its advantage to 4-0 at the break after Stacey Mohr (Tyngsboro, MA) and Katie Nehmer (Southwick, MA) each registered their first goal of the season. Maglione closed out the scoring early in the second stanza with her sixth tally.

Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester, MA) and Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) split time in goal as the Engineers posted their third shutout of the season.

Goalies Michelle DeSantis (South Plainfield, NJ) and Ciara Lawrence (Costa Mesa, CA) notched two and five saves respectively for Becker (0-8) while Alisha Glass (Hoosick Falls, NY) and Alicia Buccico (Oxford, MA) each credited with defensive saves.

WPI will return to NEWMAC play with a game Saturday at Babson at 1pm. Becker also plays on Saturday when they host NAC rival Lasell at noon.
