Bridgewater State 40, WPI Wrestling 3

Bridgewater, MA --- In New England College Conference Wrestling Association (NECCWA) action, the Bears of Bridgewater State College earned a decisive 40-3 victory over WPI this evening from the Adrian Tinsley Center in Bridgewater. The Bears improved their dual meet record to 8-3 and also snapped a three-match losing streak against the Engineers (1-5).

With the match starting in the 157-pound weight class, the Bears jumped out to a quick 6-0 advantage thanks to a pin by senior Tom Hennessey (Raynham, MA).  BSC then proceeded to take the next seven weight classes to take a 34-0 lead, highlighted by a pair of wins by fall by junior James Quinlan (Methuen, MA) at 184 and junior Eric Coughlan (Sandwich, MA) at 133. Quinlan's pin was his team-leading 15th of the season as he is now one shy of his own school record of 16 pins set just last season.  Quinlan, ranked fourth in all of Division III for his weight class, has also now won 21 straight matches as he improved his win/loss record to 26-1.

WPI got on the board in the 141-pound weight class as senior Roman Walsh (Wilmington, MA) came away with an 8-2 decision.  Bridgewater took the final bout of the match as sophomore John Marsh (New Bedford, MA) earned a win by fall at 149.

Also winning for Bridgewater were Dustin Diedrich (165, Salem, MA), John Fralick (174, Woburn, MA), Anthony D'Amico (197, Shrewsbury, MA), Tim Ferreira (285, Danbury, CT) and Eric Rosado (125, Foxboro, MA).  Fralick, D'Amico, Ferreira and Rosado all picked up wins by decision, while Diedrich came away with a major decision victory. Fralick now has 98 career victories to his credit which is good for second all-time at Bridgewater State.

The Bears are next in action on Sunday as they head to Plymouth, New Hampshire for the Plymouth State Invitational. WPI is also on the road this weekend as the Engineers head to Hartford, Connecticut on Saturday to compete in the Trinity College Mini-Meet versus Williams, MIT, Southern Main and host Trinity.
