Worcester, MA - The WPI Men's Swimming and Diving team finished
second behind Division I Holy Cross at the Worcester City
Championships on Saturday. WPI accumulated 383 points while
Holy Cross finished with 399.
Jeffrey Meyer (Denver, CO) was presented the
Justin Ferris Award which is given to the men's swimmer of the
meet. Meyer set a meet record in the 200-yard breaststroke
(2:15.36) and 200-yard IM (2:00.27), and was the 400-yard IM
champion.
Joel Rousseau (Pittsfield, MA) set a meet
record in the 100-yard backstroke (53.53), before winning the
200-yard backstroke (1:59.22) and 100-yard butterfly (51.71).
Dan White (Sidney, ME) took home first in the
1650-yard freestyle (17:32.13) and 500-yard free (5:03.61) while
placing third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:13.45).
Steve Rose (Worcester, MA) took top honors in
the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.51) and finished second on the
100-yard free (51.37) while David Keck
(Orwigsburg, PA) was the 50-yard freestyle champion (23.28) and
placed second in the 100-yard butterfly (55.81).
Chase Johnson (Eastham, MA) finished second behind
Keck in the 50-yard freestyle (23.54) while Craig
DiGiovanni (Glastonbury, CT) swam to a second place finish
in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.43).
Rousseau, Meyer, Keck, and Rose teamed up to set a meet record
in the 200-yard medley relay (1:41.66) and the same quartet placed
first in the 400-yard medley (3:43.27). Johnson got in on the
fun when he teamed up with Meyer, Keck, and Rousseau to win the
200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.97).
In diving action, Eric Wallhagen (Carlisle, MA)
finished first in the one meter with his score of 177.70 points.
WPI returns to action on Wednesday when they compete against
Clark at the Kneller Athletic Center beginning at 6:30pm.
