Chicopee, MA --- Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT)
notched 29 total kills to help WPI sweep Anna Maria and host Elms
in women's volleyball action on Saturday afternoon. With the
victories, the Engineers improve to 11-14 which equals their season
win total from last year.
The Crimson and Gray defeated Anna Maria by game scores of 30-14,
30-23, and 30-18 and the Blazers by scores of 30-27, 30-27, and
30-20.
WPI posted strong hitting percentage in both matches, notching .220
percent versus the AMCATS and an impressive .254 percentage against
the Elms.
In the opening match versus Anna Maria, Holmberg led the way with a
team-high 14 kills and nine digs. Junior Sarah
Artz (Spring Grove, IL) chipped in with eight kills and
sophomore Emily Kreek (Walpole, NH) added six
digs.
Against Elms in the night cap, Kate Woodman
(Fairfield, CT) registered a double-double (10 kills and 11 digs).
Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, MA) tallied 39 assists
and Holmberg added a team-high 15 kills. Overall on the day,
Holmberg hit at a nifty .356 clip (29 kills, 8 errors in 59
attempts)
The Boynton Hillers round out the rest of their season with three
NEWMAC matches. On Tuesday they travel to Coast Guard for a 7pm
start before entertaining Springfield on October 23 and Babson on
October 27.
