Middletown, CT - Freshman Mason Ruffing (Stone
Mountain, CA) swam to four first place finishes and senior
Jeff Meyer (Denver, CO) added two to help WPI to a
second place finish at the two-day Wesleyan Invitational last
weekend. Host Wesleyan won the invitational with 1326 points while
WPI amassed 1000 points in the 24 event meet.
Ruffing picked up victories in the 100-yard (54.08) and 200-yard
(2:02.05) butterflies and the 100-yard (57.05) and 200-yard
backstrokes (2:02.49) and earned second place in the 50-yard
butterfly (24.85). Meyer took home the top prize in the 500-yard
freestyle (4:59.75) and 1650-yard freestyle (17:04.73) while taking
second place in the 400-yard IM (4:18.39) and the 100-yard
(1:03.60) and 200-yard breaststrokes (2:22.94).
Freshman Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) and junior
Dan White (Sidney, ME) swam to second place in the
50-yard freestyle (22:59) and 1650-yard freestyle (17:38.94),
respectively, to wrap up the individual events for the Engineers.
In relay action Ruffing, Meyer, Chiang and David
Keck (Orwigsburg, PA) teamed up to take second in the
200-yard freestyle relay (1:30.87) and 400-yard medley relay
(3:49.27) before finishing third in the 200-yard medley
(1:44.38).
Capping off the day for the Crimson and Gray were Meyer, White,
Ruffing and Steve Rose (Worcester, MA) who teamed
up to take home second in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
WPI returns to action on December 8th when they travel to Keene
State for a meet beginning at 1pm.
