Wheaton, MA --- The Men's Swimming and Diving team placed a
program-best fourth place at the highly competitive NEWMAC
championships this past weekend hosted by Wheaton. The
Engineers, under the tutelage of head coach Paul Bennett
accumulated nearly 100 more points then last season.
All-American Joel Rousseau (Pittsfield, MA)
swam to two first place finishes. Rousseau's victories came
in the 100-yard butterfly (49.89) and 100-yard backstroke (51.29)
and he earned a second place finish in the 200-yard backstroke
(1:54.15). Jeff Meyer (Denver, CO) also had
an outstanding weekend as he place second in the 500-yard
freestyle (4:39.86), 400-yard IM (4:09.28) and 1650-yard freestyle
(16:07.76).
Meyer and Rousseau teamed up with David Keck
(Orwigsburg, PA) and Steve Rose (Worcester, MA) to
place third in the 400-yard medley relay (3:32.85) before
Chase Johnson (Eastham, MA) took the place of Rose
to place fourth in the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.79). Meyer
and Rousseau joined up one more time with Rose and Dan
White (Sidney, ME) to grab a fourth place spot in the
800-yard freestyle relay (7:10.64). Keck earned a sixth place
finish in 200-yard butterfly with a time 2:03.71.
Diver Eric Wallhagen (Carlisle, MA) dove to an
eighth place finish in the three meter diving (240.80) and eleventh
in one meter diving (264.55). Meyer, Johnson, Rose and
Rousseau capped the weekend to combine to finish fourth in the
400-yard freestyle relay in a time of 3:15.43.
