WPI 139, UMass-Dartmouth 111
North Dartmouth, MA --- In its only meet of the week, WPI
downed UMass-Dartmouth 139-111 in men's swimming and diving action
on Tuesday evening. With the win, WPI ups their record to 8-2
on the season.
Jeffrey Meyer (Denver, CO) and Joel
Rousseau (Pittsfield, MA) each won their respective events
to help the Engineers to their third consecutive win. Meyer's
victories came in the 200-yard (1:47.96) and 500-yard (4:52.08)
freestyles while Rousseau led the pack in the 50-yard backstroke
(26.93) and 50-yard butterfly (23.97).
Chase Johnson (Eastham, MA) swam to a first
place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (51.52) and teammate
Craig DiGiovanni (Glastonbury, CT) earned the top
spot in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04). Dan
White (Sidney, ME) finished first in the 100-yard
butterfly (1:00.82) and turned in a second place finish in the
100-yard freestyle (52.23).
Second place finishers included David Keck
(Orwigsburg, PA) in the 50-yard butterfly (25.57), 50-yard
freestyle (24.16), and 200-yard freestyle (1:57.92), Minh
Truong (West Roxbury, MA) in the 50-yard breaststroke
(31.92), Bobby Medaglio (Andover, MA) in the
100-yard backstroke (1:07.84), and Steve Rose
(Worcester, MA) in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.46).
The Men's Swimming and Diving team is off until February 23rd as
they prepare to compete at the NEWMAC Championships held at Wheaton
College.
