WPI 3, Lasell 2

Worcester, MA ---  Junior forward Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) scored two goals to help host WPI to an exciting 3-2 victory over Lasell in the season opener for both squads.

Sophomore midfielder Caitlyn Walker (Middlebury, CT) got the scoring started for Lasell on an unassisted goal at 8:46.  WPI forward Sarah Tracy (Oakland, ME) answered back at 14:00 to tie the game with her first goal of the season with an assist from Jackie McDonough (Winchester, MA). 

Maglione put the Engineers ahead with an assist from Kelly Johnson (Buxton, ME) at 23:05.  She scored again late the first half when she buried a shot into the back of the net following a pass off the stick Maggie Elbag (Rutland, MA).

Lasell got back to within a goal when Katie Bryer (Dresden, ME) notched an unassisted tally with 13:06 remaining.  The Lasers attacked relentlessly in the final minutes, including taking six penalty corners, but were unable to put home the equalizer.   

Mary Kate Toomey (Worcester ,MA) tallied five stops in net for the Engineers, while Lasell goalie Amanda Miller (Assonet, MA) made one save.

WPI will have the rest of the weekend off and play its next game at home on Tuesday at 7pm against Salve Regina. Lasell travels to Western Connecticut on Wednesday for a non-conference match up at 4:30pm.
