Bridgewater, MA --- Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT),
David Cardenas (Framingham, MA) and Larry
Loomis (Plainfield, CT) all won three bouts for WPI at the
New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) Dual Meet Championships
hosted by Bridgewater State College on Sunday. As a team, the
Engineers won one of three matches and are now 4-10 on the season.
Howe had an outstanding day at 157 pounds, recording a first
period pin during WPI's 39-12 opening round loss to Bridgewater
State and a second period fall to help the Crimson and Gray finish
13th with a 23-17 win against Trinity in the fourth round. He
also added a 4-2 win during the Engineers' close 26-18 second round
loss to Western New England College.
Loomis provided WPI a spark at 174 pounds scoring a technical
fall (16-1) at the third period buzzer of his match versus WNEC and
a 16-8 major decision against his opponent from Trinity.
Cardenas won all three of his bouts on the day, including a 10-2
major decision against Western New England.
Matt Wainwright (North Attleboro, MA) was a
multiple winner for WPI at 149 pounds while Scott
Guzman (Acton, ME) and Anthony Corbo
(Port Washington, NY) each picked up single victories at 184 and
285 pounds respectively.
WPI is off for more then a week before a busy stretch of home
meets. The Engineers will host rival Coast Guard on
Tuesday, January 29th before entertaining Wesleyan two nights
later.
