Volleyball Falls in Pair of Matches at UNE Tri-Match

Worcester, MA ---  The Babson College Beavers improved to 13-6 on the season with a 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-18) victory over the WPI Engineers as part of a non-conference tri-match hosted by the University of New England. 

Junior Caitlin O'Neill (Lynnfield, MA) had seven kills and three solo blocks to lead the way for Babson.  Senior Amanda Medin (Baltimore, MD) contributed six kills, while sophomore Ashley Tremblay (Middleton, MA) set up the offense with 13 assists.  Junior Shanna Glassner (Orland Park, IL) played a strong match, registering match highs with 21 digs and three aces. 

Junior Becca Holmberg (Madison, CT) had nine kills and 13 digs for WPI, now 10-12.  Senior Kathryn Bomba (Chelmsford, MA) and junior Becca Mattern (Vernon, CT) chipped in with seven kills apiece.  Senior Nikki Croteau (Wilbraham, Mass.) dished out a match-high 24 assists.

University of New England 3, WPI 0

Box Score

Biddeford, ME -- Senior Alex Toregas (Chevy Chase, MD) had nine kills and seven total blocks to lead the University of New England Nor'easters to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-16) victory over the WPI Engineers in a non-conference volleyball match played Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center. 

The win improves the Nor'easters' record to 14-12, while the Engineers fall to 10-13. 

Sophomore Chelsea Boyle (Cumberland, RI) played a strong match for UNE, racking up 13 digs and five service aces.  Classmate Angie Gust (Manitowoc, WI) had 13 digs and was 10-for-10 on serves received.  Senior Josie Raphaelito (Pine Hill, NM) contributed 13 digs and three aces. 

Holmberg again paces the WPI attack.  The junior outside hitter led all players with 13 kills while Mattern chipped in with seven kills and a pair of solo blocks.  Croteau again notched a game-high in assists (25), while adding three service aces.  Freshman Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) amassed nine digs.

UNE returns to action Wednesday when Regis comes to town for a 7:00pm match.  The Engineers host Clark on Tuesday at 7:00pm.
