WPI 163, Wheaton 132
Norton, MA --- Sophomore Mason Ruffing (Stone
Mountain, GA) and freshman Andrew Lybarger
(Atlanta, GA) each won three individual events while adding a relay
victory to lead WPI to a 163-132 win over Wheaton on Saturday
afternoon. The Engineers won 12 of the meet's 16 events which
was held at Wheaton's Balfour Natatorium.
Ruffing picked up the top prize in the 200-yard butterfly
(2:00.59), 200-yard backstroke (2:00.98) and 200-yard IM (2:02.11)
while teammate Lybarger took home first in the 100-yard backstroke
(55.31), 100-yard freestyle (49.56) and 100-yard butterfly
(54.18).
Ruffing teamed up with Minh Truong (West
Roxbury, MA), David Keck (Orwigsburg, PA) and
Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) to win the 200-yard
medley relay (1:43.19) while Lybarger swam with Alford
Green (Portmore, Jamaica), Steve Rose
(Worcester, MA) and Chiang to earn the victory in the 200-yard
freestyle relay (1:30.17).
Rose placed first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:50.74) and second
in the 100-free (50.81) and 500-free (5:17.36) while Chiang won the
50-yard freestyle (22.36). Keck and Green finished second
(57.10) and third (57.30) behind Lybarger to sweep the 100-yard
butterfly.
Graduate student Conn Dickson (Woodstock, MD)
dove to a victory in the one meter event (136.35) before placing
second in the three meter (122.03) while teammate Andrey
Yamshchikov (Essex Junction, VT) was second in the one
meter (135.75).
Men's Swimming and Diving will get back into the pool on
Saturday when they host Brandeis beginning at 4:30pm.
