Brandeis 157, WPI 137
Worcester, MA --- Sophomore Mason Ruffing
(Stone Mountain, GA) and freshman Andrew Lybarger
(Atlanta, GA) swam to three and two victories, respectively, in a
close 157-137 loss to Brandeis on Saturday at Clark
University.
Ruffing won 200-yard butterfly (2:01.3), 500-yard freestyle
(5:01.1) and 200-yard IM (2:04.3) while Lybarger took home wins in
the 100-yard (55.49) and 200-yard (2:04.9) backstroke and second in
the 100-yard butterfly (53.90).
Junior James Liu (Longmeadow, MA) led the way
for Brandeis with three victories on the day. He won the
50-yard freestyle (22.24), 100-yard freestyle (48.22) and 100-yard
butterfly (53.59). Freshman Marc Eder
(Princeton, NJ) won two events including the 100-yard (1:02.03) and
200-yard breaststrokes (2:19.2). Bobby Morse
(Hope, RI) took home the top prize in the 200-yard freestyle
(1:49.2) while Alex Cemaj (Omaha, NE) won the
1000-yard freestyle (10:36.5).
Lybarger and Ruffing teamed up with David Keck
(Orwigsburg, PA) and Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) to
place second in the 40-yard medley relay (3:45.9) before Chiang
picked up second in the 50-yard (22.53) and 100-yard freestyle
(49.17).
Senior Dan White (Sidney, ME) was second in the
1000-yard freestyle while junior Steve Rose
(Worcester, MA) crossed the finish line second in the 200-yard
freestyle (1:52.7).
The Engineers dominated the boards, sweeping both the one-meter
and three-meter events. Junior Andrey
Yamschchikov (Essex Junction, VT) dove to first place in
the one meter (146.35) while Craig Janeczek
(Dracut, MA) edged out teammate Conn Dickson
(Woodstock, MD) for second. In the three meter, Dickson took
the top prize with 136.45 while Yamschchikov was a close second in
135.30 points. Janeczek finished in third (99.75).
Men's Swimming will look to get back into the winning column
when they host Keene State on Saturday beginning at 1pm.
