Coast Guard 151, WPI 132
New London, CT --- WPI Men's Swimming and Diving dropped a
151-132 decision to host Coast Guard Academy on Saturday
afternoon.
Andrew Lybarger (Atlanta, GA) led the way for the
Engineers with a pair of victories in the 100-yard and 200-yard
butterflies and the second spot in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.5).
Lybarger swam the 200-butterfly in 2:00.4 to take home the win
before combining with Alford Green (Portmore,
Jamaica) and David Keck (Orwigsburg, PA) to finish
first (53.59), second (56.69) and third (57.20), respectively in
the 100-butterfly.
Dan White (Sidney, ME) teamed up with Carl
Curran (Keene, NH) and Nick Catano
(Goffstown, NH) to sweep the 500-yard freestyle while Mason
Ruffing (Stone Mountain, GA) captured first in the
200-yard IM (2:02.8) with Curran and Catano again finishing second
(2:13.7) and third (2:23.7), respectively.
Other top individual finishes included Ruffing's second place
finishes in the 100-yard (55.18) and 200-yard (1:59.84)
backstrokes, Lee Chiang's (Lexington, MA)
second spot in the 100-yard freestyle and Andrey
Yamshchikov's (Essex Junction, VT) victory in three
meter diving (160.25) and second place finish in the one meter
(157.35).
Capping off the meet for the Crimson and Gray were Chiang,
Lybarger, Green and Ruffing who crossed the finish line first in
the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:31.14) ahead of teammates
Robert Medaglio (Andover, MA), Minh
Truong (West Roxbury, MA), Catano and Curran who grabbed
second (1:42.70).
Men's Swimming and Diving, now 2-3 overall, will return on
December 6th when they compete at the two-day Wesleyan
Invitational.
