Cambridge, MA --- Senior Jeff Meyer (Denver,
CO) swam to WPI's top finish to help the Engineers climb into
fourth place after one full day of competition at the NEWMAC
Championships held at MIT.
Meyer took home third place in the 500-yard freestyle with his
time of 4:39.95. Teammate Dan White (Sidney,
ME) finished in 16th (5:01.24).
Freshman Mason Ruffing (Stone Mountain, CA)
picked up fourth in the 200-yard IM (1:57.75) while David
Keck (Orwigsburg, PA) and Alford Green
(Portmore, Jamaica) tied for 14th place in the 50-yard freestyle
(22.22).
The 200-yard freestyle team of Green, Keck, Steve
Rose (Worcester, MA) and Chase Johnson
(Eastham, MA) crossed the finish line in fourth (1:29.29).
Ruffing, Meyer, Keck and Lee Chiang (Lexington,
MA) combined to race to a fourth place finish in the 400-yard
medley relay (3:31.11).
At the close of day one the Engineers have a total of 117 points
while Coast Guard leads the pack with 304 points. The
competition will resume on Saturday morning beginning with the
preliminaries at 11am followed by the finals at 6:30pm.
