Worcester, MA --- Rich Wingert (Hyde Park, MA) and Larry Loomis (Plainfield, CT) each won all four of their matches to lead WPI to a 3-1 record at the WPI Wrestling "Super Quad" meet Saturday afternoon at WPI's Alumni Gymnasium. The Engineers improve to 6-3 on the year.

Williams was the big winner of Saturday's event, going 4-0 on the afternoon. WPI was second at 3-1, while Trinity was 1-2, Southern Maine 1-3 and MIT 0-3 on the day.

Williams improves to 7-2-2, Southern Maine falls to 3-5 and MIT drops to 0-5. Trinity is now 1-7 on the season.

The day's matches began with Williams defeating Trinity 35-17 and Southern Maine edging MIT by a final of 27-25.

In the second round of matches, WPI handed Trinity a 29-9 defeat while Williams knocked off Southern Maine 34-15. Against Trinity, the Engineers were paced by three Major Decision victories from Wingert, Joe Vanni (Hamilton, MA) and Matt Wainwright (North Attleboro, MA) along with a win by pin for Scott Guzman (Acton, ME).

The most exciting match of the day for the Crimson and Gray came in round three, with the Engineers' big men carrying the load en route to a 27-20 win. Following a pin by USM's James Lamarca (Kittery, ME) at 184 pounds, the match was knotted at 20-20. Guzman contributed to another big WPI victory, winning by Major Decision 14-6 to give WPI a four-point lead. Anthony Corbo (Port Washington, NY) followed Guzman and recorded a win to give the Engineers the final margin of victory over USM.

In other round three action, Williams darted past MIT 42-9.

The meet's fourth round featured a battle of the Engineers, as WPI took down MIT by a 34-20 score on the shoulders of Wingert, Vanni and Tyler Howe (Danbury, CT) who each pinned their opponent. On the other mat, Trinity recorded their first win this season with a 29-17 victory over Southern Maine.

The final match of the day featured the two teams who were unbeaten on the day, WPI and Williams. Despite Loomis and Wingert each recording their fourth victories on the day against the Ephs, Williams lived up to their #1 ranking in the latest New England Wrestling Association poll, defeating WPI by a 35-9 score. James McCarthy (Marion, MA), Dylan Rittenberg (Binghamton, NY) and Ethan Cohen (Columbia, MD) each registered pins against the Engineers.

In addition to Wingert and Loomis for WPI, Williams' Cohen, Carl Breitenstein (Delanson, NY) and Ryan Malo (Georgetown, MA) each won all four of their matches on the afternoon.

WPI will be back in action this Wednesday January 14th at home against Rhode Island College.
