WPI 130, UMass Dartmouth 110
North Dartmouth, MA --- WPI Men's Swimming and Diving
picked up eleven victories en route to a 130-110 win over
UMass Dartmouth on Thursday evening. With the win, the
Engineers even their record at 3-3 on the season.
Mason Ruffing (Stone Mountain, GA) picked up
wins in the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.5) and 100-yard butterfly
(55.15) while Andew Lybarger (Atlanta, GA) touched
the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.23) and 200-yard IM
(2:08.9).
Carl Curran (Keene, NH) took home the top prize
in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:48.6), Dan White
(Sidney, ME) placed first in the 100-yard freestyle (51.13),
Steve Rose (Worcester, MA) delivered a win in the
500-yard freestyle (5:15.6) while Mike Boucher
(East Lyme, CT) and David Keck (Orwigsburg, PA)
each finished first in the mixed 100-yard (52.33) and 200-yard
(2:02.3) freestyles, respectively.
Other top finishes included Lee Chiang's
(Lexington, MA) second place finishes in the 100-yard butterfly
(57.18) and 500-yard freestyle (5:23), Keck in the 100-yard
backstroke (2nd; 1:03), Rob Cakounes (Chelmsford,
MA) in the mixed 100-yard freestyle (2nd; 1:04.8) and
Alford Green (Portmore, Jamaica) in the
mixed 200-yard freestyle (2nd; 2:23).
WPI met with success in relay action as Rose, Keck, Chiang and
White combined to take first (3:51.5) in the 400-yard medley relay
before Ruffing teamed up with Green, Curran and White to post
a time of 3:29.9 to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.
The Engineers return to the pool on February 4th when they
travel to Clark to take on the Cougars beginning at 6:30pm.
