WPI 132, Clark 103
Worcester, MA --- Andrew Lybarger (Atlanta,
GA), Lee Chiang (Lexington, MA) and Mason
Ruffing (Stone Mountain, GA) each won two events to spark
a strong performance for WPI Men's Swimming and Diving, which
brought home a 132-103 road win over crosstown rival Clark
Wednesday evening. The victory came on senior night for the
Engineers, despite Clark being at home for the competition.
WPI jumped out of the gate quickly, as the Engineers swept the top
three spots in the 200-yard medley relay, with the team of
Lybarger, Minh Truong (West Roxbury, MA),
Alford Green (Portmore, Jamaica) and Chiang
touching the wall first at 1.43.46. Lybarger also was the winner in
the 100-yard backstroke with a finals time of 55.06, while Chiang
was first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.28). Ruffing took home
first place in the 500-yard backstroke (4:58.55) and 100-yard
breaststroke (1:05.61).
The Engineers also received a win from Dan White
(Sidney, ME) in the 1000-yard freestyle, whose time of 10:34.40 was
almost a full minute ahead of the pack. Carl
Curran (Keene, NH) led a trio of Engineers at the top of
the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.07) and was second to Ruffing in the
500-yard backstroke.
Other event winners for WPI include Worcester's own Steve
Rose in the 50-yard freestyle (23.09) and David
Keck (Orwigsburg, PA) in the 100-yard butterfly (56.07).
Men's Swimming and Diving will look to continue their success
this Sunday at Bridgewater State. Competition gets underway at 2pm.
