WPI 138, Bridgewater State 118
Bridgewater, MA --- Men's Swimming and Diving tallied nine
victories to help them to a 138-118 win over Bridgewater State
College on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers improve to 5-3
on the season.
Andrew Lybarger (Atlanta, GA) and Mason
Ruffing (Stone Mountain, GA) paced the Engineers with two
wins apiece - Lybarger taking home first in the 100 (49.45) and
1000 yard (10:36.7) freestyles and Ruffing winning in the 50 yard
backstroke (26.38) and 50 yard freestyle (23.04).
Nick Catano (Goffstown, NH) earned the top
prize in the 200 yard freestyle (1:56.4) before finishing third in
the 200 yard backstroke (1:02.9). Minh
Truong (West Roxbury, MA) placed first in the 50 yard
backstroke (30.76) while teammate Rob Cakounes
(Chelmsford, MA) finished second (32.5).
Carl Curran (Keene, NH), Dan
White (Sidney, ME) and Calvin Lam
(Swampscott, MA) combined to sweep the 100 yard butterfly while
Alford Green (Portmore, Jamaica) and David
Keck (Orwigsburg, PA) finished second (23.14) and third
(23.47), respectively, behind Ruffing in the 50 yard
freestyle. Curran added a second place spot to his
accomplishments in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:38.7) while
Steve Rose (Worcester, MA) was second in the 100
yard freestyle (51.02).
Diver Conn Dickson (Woodstock, MD) registered
145.85 points which proved to be good enough for a second place
finish in the one meter diving event.
Men's Swimming and Diving will return to the pool on February
27th when they compete at the three-day NEWMAC Championships hosted
by Wheaton.
