Leicester, MA --- Freshman Libbi Richardson (Uxbridge, MA) registered a goal and assist and Celena Dopart (Washington, DC) and Tracy Sinkewicz (Georgetown, MA) both deposited goals to provide WPI with a 3-1 non-conference field hockey victory Thursday over host Becker.
The victory pushes the Engineers record to 5-1 ahead of Saturday's 1pm NEWMAC opener at Wheaton. Becker is now 1-5 on the year.
The game was scoreless until the final seconds of the first half when Richardson scored her third goal of the season.
The Engineers increased their lead to 2-0 just 2:20 into the second half when Dopart scored an unassisted goal. Becker made things interesting in the 58th minute when sophomore Michelle Griczika (Barre, MA) scored her team best third goal of the season, putting the Hawks within striking distance at 2-1.
The Engineers put the game out of reach in the 63rd minute when Richardson fed Sinkewicz for her first collegiate goal, securing the 3-1 victory for WPI.
WPI goalkeeper Liz Dufresne (Worcester, Mass.) made one save, as the Engineers outshot the Hawks 28-2 on the game.
Becker goalkeeper Samantha-Jo Dilkes (Little Falls, N.J.) made ten saves in a losing effort. The Hawks will return to action on Sunday morning when they host Husson University at 11am.
