Leicester, MA --- WPI received a dominating effort from junior Belinda Nwagbara (Santa Rosa, CA), who had 12 kills, hitting for an amazing .923 as the Engineers defeated host Becker 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-5) in a non-conference volleyball match-up played on Thursday evening. The Crimson and Gray, winners of fourth straight, improve to 8-3 while Becker falls to 2-9 on the season.
Nwagbara belted her 12 kills in just 13 attempts and did not commit and error on the night. Bailey Sarber (Westerly, RI) and Kerrin Beovich (Seaford, NY) pitched in with five and four kills respectively while Kim Woodward (Clifton Park, NY) led all players with 17 assists.
The Engineers did a tremendous job from the service line, racking up a season-best 25 aces. Elyssa Dorenfeld (Reading, MA) and Alyssa Corini (Pompton Plains, NJ) paced the serving outburst with six aces apiece while Woodward added four. Joan Porambo (Jim Thorpe, PA) posted a game-best 10 digs.
For the Hawks, sophomore Jacqueline Chila (Monroe, CT) had two kills and two solo blocks.
Becker will look to get back on the winning track this Saturday as they host a tri-match against the Wildcats of Bay Path College and the Buccaneers of Mass Maritime. Their match against Bay begins at 11a.m. WPI turns its attention to Homecoming Weekend this Saturday when they will host Westfield State at 3pm.
