Lybarger Paces Men's Swimming at Worcester City Invitational

Worcester, MA --- Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA) earned Swimmer of the Meet honors as WPI came in second at the Worcester City Championships hosted by Holy Cross on Saturday. Lybarger won the 200 free with a time of 1:50.70. He was also victorious in the 200 fly with a 1:59.37 time and came in first in the 100 fly with a 52.58.  Lybarger shared the award with three-time recepiant Ryan Garr (North Kingston, RI) of Clark.

Ben List (Beford, MA) was another winner for WPI in the 100 free (50.47), while coming in second in the 100 fly (55.37) and third in the 50 free (23.29).

Lybarger swam the second leg of the 200 medley relay team that came in third with a time of 1:44.29. He was joined by Cullen O'Brien (Ben Harbor, ME), Eric Spazzarini (Enfield, CT) and Ben Collins (Newbury, MA). Spazzarini also had a second place showing in the 400 IM (4:31.53), a second place in the 200 fly (2:06.17) and a third place in the 200 IM (2:07.26). Collins was third in the 100 free (51.60) and sixth in the 200 free (1:56.39). O'Brien also came in sixth in the 200 breast (1:08.11) and sixth in the 50 free (23.57).

Lybarger and Collins also swam in the 400 medley relay team that took third place with a time of 3:48.81. They were accompanied by James Perez-Rogers (Woodstock, NY) and Keith Gagnon (West Hartford, CT). Perez-Rogers turned in a third place finish in the 100 back (59.17) and came in sixth in the 100 fly (59.41). Gagnon also came in third in the 100 breast (1:06.05), third in the 200 breast (2:26.20) and sixth in the 200 IM (2:11.33).

Lybarger, Collins, O'Brien and List joined up for the 400 free relay, coming in second with a time of 3:20.67.

Carl Curran (Keene, NH) was another top performer for the Engineers, as he came in second in the 500 free (5:04.69), third in the 400 IM (4:34.05), fourth in the 200 IM (2:07.83). Nick Catano (Goffstown, NH) placed second in the 1650 free (17:53.11), third in the 200 free (1:55.14) and third in the 500 free (5:10.09). Keahi Goodale (Kailua-Kona, HI) was third in the 200 back (2:11.53) and fourth in the 400 IM (4:41.07). 

Up next for the Engineers, the team heads to UMass Dartmouth on Thursday, January 26th.
