North Dartmouth, MA --- Seniors Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) and Nica Sylvia (Martha's Vineyard, MA) were each double winners as the WPI Women's Swimming and Diving team claimed victories in 8 of 13 events Thursday evening en route to a 134-103 triumph over host UMass Dartmouth. With the win, the Engineers push their dual-meet record to 4-2 on the season.
Aubin touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time 26.79 while also claiming victory in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1:02.77. Sylvia swept the diving events. The senior tallied 187.85 points in the 1-meter event before racking up 215.75 points from the 3-meter board.
Two other Engineers sported victories on the night. Alexandra Sanz-Guerrero (Ann Arbor, MA) raced to a first place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (58.86) while Sarah Dinwoodie (East Greenwich, RI) took home a win in the 100-yard backstroke (1:06.24).
The Crimson and Gray also enjoyed success in both relay events. The 200-yard medley relay of Toni LaBella (Warrick, RI), Jetta Garrity (Lynn, MA), Aubin and Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) claimed gold with a time of 2:03.23 while the 400-yard freestyle relay quartet of Taylor Briseno (Mansfield, MA,) Kent, Sanz-Guerrero and Kelin Song (Providence, RI) won the final event in 4:02.26.
Song registered a pair of second place finishes. The sophomore clocked a 2:23.99 in the 200-yard IM and later a 1:17.82 in the 100-yard breaststroke. Other second place showings were turned in by Briseno in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:37.77) and Kent in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.43). Diver Sam Sargalski (Windsor, CT) collected third place showings in both the 1-meter (136.80) and 3-meter (139.70) events.
WPI is back in the pool on Saturday, heading to Wheaton for a 1pm double-dual meet against the Lyons and Tufts.
