Norton, MA - Four WPI women's swimmers and divers picked up first place points as the Engineers competed Saturday in a double-dual meet at Wheaton with Tufts. The Engineers, who are now 4-4 on the season, were defeated 190-179 by the host Lyons and fell 210-149 to the Jumbos.
Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) was credited with a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (5:25.80) after touching the wall second in both the 1000-yard freestyle (11:01.67) and 200-yard butterfly (2:18.60). Alana Aubin (Taunton, MA) tallied first place points in the 100-yard IM (1:06.54) while placing third in the 100-yard freestyle (57.18) and fifth in the 50-yard butterfly (28.45). Kelin Song (Providence, RI) grabbed first place points in the 200-yard IM (2:23.77) to go along with a fourth place result in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.90) while Taylor Briseno (Mansfield, MA) was credited with a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly (1:05.38) and third and fifth place showing in the 500-yard freestyle (5:36.96) in the 200-yard freestyle (2:10.44) respectively.
Nica Sylvia (Martha's Vineyard, MA) continued her recent hot stretch on the diving boards. The senior was second in the 1-meter event (218.47) before diving to a third place finish off the 3-meter board (214.58).
Seven others for the Crimson and Gray registered top-five placings. Heather Peruffo (Poughkeepsie, NY) was second in the 100-yard butterfly (1:06.49) and 200-yard IM (2:26.23) while Sarah Dinwoodie (East Greenwich, RI) placed second in the 100-yard IM (1:06.54) and fifth in the 100-backstroke (1:06.06). Jetta Garrity (Lynn, MA) and Emily Colpas (Holden, MA) notched points with third (35.27) and fifth (38.24) finishes in the 50-yard breaststroke while Aimee St. Germain (Manchester, NH) was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle (6:06.27) and Sam Sargalski (Windsor, CT) and Toni LaBella (Warwick, RI) were fifth in the 50-yard freestyle (27.53) and 200-yard IM (2:36.54) respectively.
WPI hosts a pair of meets next week at Clark. The Engineers take on Clark at 6:30pm on Wednesday and Bridgewater State at 1pm on Saturday.
