Worcester, MA ---In its first home meet in 25 years, and the first in the new Sports and Recreation Center pool, the WPI men's swimming and diving team defeated both Vassar (176-97) and Clarkson (170-87).  En route to the victory, the Engineers touched first in all 14 swimming events. 

In the third matchup of the double-dual, Clarkson defeated Vassar 160-122. 

The Crimson and Grey were led by sophomore Nick Houghton (Berkley, MA), who placed first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:13.96), 200-yard butterfly (2:03.66), and 500-yard freestyle (4:57.95). Freshman Alex Powers (Glocester, RI) also won three events, finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke (54.36), 100-yard freestyle (49.01), and 200-yard backstroke (2:05.37). Powers teamed up with fellow freshmen Tyler Greff (Lincoln Park, NJ) and Mitch Lentz (Edina, MN), and sophomore Ben List (Bedford, MA) to start the meet with a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1:38.33). 

In his debut meet for WPI, Greff won and broke the school record in the 100-yard breaststroke with a 1:01.33, and completed a WPI sweep in the 50-yard freestyle with a third place finish (22.88). List beat out Lentz to win the event (22.25, 22.74), and the situation was later reversed as Lentz took the 100-yard butterfly (55.00) over List (55.33). Freshman Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA) joined the trio to touch first in the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:21.63). Hughes earned a win in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.93), as well as second in the 100-yard (49.99) and 500-yard freestyles (5:09.97). 

Sophomore Max Arnold (Charlton, MA) also swam well, finishing first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.15) and 200-yard IM (2:06.14), and second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.07). Also scoring for the Engineers were sophomores Keahi Goodale (Kailua-Kona, HI) with third in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:02.13) and 200-yard backstroke (2:12.89), and Keith Gagnon (West Hartford, CT) with a second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:54.26) and fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:25.34). Senior James Perez-Rogers (Woodstock, NY) earned second in the 100-yard backstroke (59.34), and was part of the third place 200-yard medley relay (1:42.31) with freshman Alex Tomanelli (Mansfield, CT) and senior captains Spencer Coffin (Poughkeepsie, NY) and Cullen O'Brien (Bar Harbor, ME). Junior Ben Collins (Newbury, MA) touched fourth in the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.22), and joined freshman Tommy Nuthmann (Hillsboro, OR), O'Brien, and sophomore Adam Trumbley (Prospect, CT) to finish second in the 400 yard freestyle relay (3:26.76). 

WPI takes to the pool next week as they host the New England Invitational at 1pm.
