Men's Swimming and Diving Sweeps Past Bridgewater State on Senior Day

Worcester, MA --- WPI posted the best time in every event as the Engineers defeated the Bears of Bridgewater State, 172-111 in men's swimming and diving action on Saturday afternoon at the Clark campus. WPI is now 3-8 on the season while Bridgewater State falls to 1-9.

Andrew Lybarger (Decatur, GA) racked up four individual victories, winning the 100-yard breaststroke (1:03.11), the 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.36), the 50-yard breaststroke (29.81) and the 100-yard butterfly (:53.41).  

Lybarger was also part of the winning 200-yard medley relay team, along with Carl Curran (Keene, NH), Rob Cakounes (Chelmsford, MA) and Eric Prouty (Auburn, MA), finishing with a time of 1:50.73. Curran was another big winner for the Crimson and Gray, coming in first in the 500-yard freestyle (5:07.07) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.70). Cakounes was second in the 50-yard breaststroke (32.76), third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:31.96) and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.86). Prouty finished fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle (13:00.37). 

Adam Trumbley (Prospect, CT) won the 50-yard fly (26.78) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.37). Keahi Goodale (Kailua-Kona, HI) won the 100-yard IM (1:01.00), was second in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.32) and was third in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:08.08). Ben List (Bedford, MA) won the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.27) while coming in second in the 50-yard back (27.96) and third in the 200-yard IM (2:20.19). List, Trumbley and Goodale teamed with Duje Jelaska (Brookfield, CT), winning 200-yard freestyle relay with a 1:36.67 time. Jelaska was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.89). 

Other winners included Nick Catano (Goffstown, NH) won the 1000-yard free (10:52.05), while coming in second in the 100-yard IM (1:01.17) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.91). Joon-Ho Lee (Hampstead, NH) won the 200-yard freestyle (1:57.14), coming in second in the 100-yard freestyle (53.94) and third in the 100-yard IM (1:01.52). James Perez-Rogers (Woodstock, NY) won the 100-yard backstroke (58.66) and the 50-yard backstroke (26.90). He came in second in the 200-yard IM (2:19.51). Ben Collins (Newbury, MA) had a first place time in the 50-yard freestyle (23.45) and was third in the 500-yard free (5:18.89). Spencer Coffin (Poughkeepsie, NY) won the 100-yard freestyle (53.19), was second in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.57) and placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.10). Victor Puksta (Nashua, NH) won the 200-yard IM (2:16.02) and was second in the 50-yard free and the 500-yard freestyle (5:16.30). 

Other peak performers for the Engineers included Nick Houghton (Berkley, MA), who finished second in the 50-yard butterfly (26.90) and 100-yard butterfly (1:00.58) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (54.37) and 50-yard backstroke (28.91). Blake Cornachini (Branford, CT) was second in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:59.01). Keith Gagnon (West Hartford, CT) placed second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.04) and third in the 50-yard freestyle (24.36). John Lucker (Hamden, CT) placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:17.97). 

After a two week break, the Crimson and Gray will travel to the NEWMAC conference championships, Friday, February 17th through Sunday, February 19th. Bridgewater State will participate in the NEISDA Division II/III Swimming Championships that same weekend.
