Worcester, MA --- Soozin Kang (Bordentown, NJ) and Morgan Lockwood (Feeding Halls, MA) knocked home goals late in the second half to propel visiting Babson to a 2-0 triumph over WPI in a NEWMAC field hockey matchup on Saturday morning. 

With the win, Babson moves to 7-4 on the season and a perfect 3-0 in league play.  WPI falls to 4-6 on the year and 0-3 in NEWMAC contests. 

Caroline Malone (Walpole, MA) began what proved to be the game-winning sequence when her insertion was passed back to her by the near post following a stick stop by Julia Pochini (Acton, MA) Malone calmly crossed it through a crowded box when it was redirected into the net by Kang at 56:49 for her first goal of the season. 

The Beavers registered a key insurance tally when Pochini collected a nifty pass from Pochini and buried her ninth goal of the year at 66:34.  

The first half was scoreless with Babson having a goal disallowed due to an infraction following a penalty corner in the ninth minute.  WPI's best chance came on a mad scramble in front of the Beaver cage in the 34th minute but the Babson defense was able to clear.  The visitors also had a goal waved off early in the second half due to a foul on a penalty corner. 

Kayla Florence (Milton, MA) made one save en route to recording her second solo and the team's fifth shutout of the season .  Lauren Puishys (Oxford, MA) was solid in net for WPI, making five stops.  SarahRose Gabor (Cazenovia, NY) aided the WPI effort with a pair of defensive saves in the second half. 

For the game, Babson enjoyed a 13-3 edge in shots, including all nine in the second half, and a 13-1 bulge in corners. Mary-Lee Barboza (Rochester, MA), Libbi Richardson (Uxbridge, MA) and Grace Davis (Sandwich, MA) all notched shots for WPI. 

Both teams continue their NEWMAC schedules with home games against local foes on Tuesday evening.  WPI hosts crosstown rival Clark at 7pm while Babson entertains Wellesley at Northeastern's Dedham Field at 7:30pm.
