Cambridge, MA --- The WPI men's swimming and diving team wrapped up competition Sunday at the NEWMAC Championships and racked up enough points to finish in fourth, equaling its best performance in program history.  The Engineers collected 477 points to mirror performances in 2007, 2008 and 2009. 

The Crimson and Gray ran up the points in the 1650-yard freestyle on Sunday, having five swimmers score including Nick Houghton (Berkley, MA) who touched in sixth place in a time of 16:24.13.  Others to dent the scoring column included Keith Gagnon (West Hartford, CT) in 13th place (17:33.48), Duje Jelaska (Brookfield, CT) in 14th (17:39.28), Joon-Ho Lee (Hampstead, NH) in 15th (17:48.16) and Tyler Faszewski (Hooksett, NH) in 16th (17:51.66). 

Adam McNally (Leominster, MA) paced three swimmers to shine in the 200-yard breaststroke.  The sophomore was sixth in a time of 2:10.15 while Tyler Greff (Lincoln Park, NJ) was eighth (2:11.52) and Max Arnold (Charlton, MA) finished in 11th (2:13.57).  Alex Powers (Glocester, RI) touched the wall eighth in the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.24) while James Perez-Rogers (Woodstock, NY) clocked a 16th place time (2:02.01). 

Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA) raced to a 10th place finish in the (47.15) and teammate Ben List (Bedford, MA) touched the wall in 16th (48.26).  WPI went back-to-back in the 200-yard butterfly with Spencer Coffin (Poughkeepsie, NY) 15th (2:03.80) and Jessie Johnson (Westford, MA) 16th (2:07.38). 

The Engineers capped a strong meet of relays with a third place time in the 400-yard freestyle relay.  The quartet of Hughes, List, Adam Trumbley (Prospect, CT) and Power clocked a 3:09.20.  Finally, Ben Andrews (Bristol, CT) narrowly missed the finals in the 3-meter diving. The freshman totaled 217.90 points.
