Richardson and Symecko Tally Two Goals Apiece in Field Hockey's 8-0 Triumph

Worcester, MA --- Junior Libbi Richardson (Uxbridge, MA) scored two early goals and added a second half assist as WPI blanked visiting Becker, 8-0, in a non-conference field hockey tilt on Saturday morning at Alumni Field.

Richardson registered a pair of markers in the first eight minutes of the contest with the first off a pass from classmate Nicole Holmes (Plymouth, MA). Sophomore Caroline Mazzola, (Harvard, MA) rookie Jena Mazzucco (Danbury, CT) and sophomore Stephanie Symecko (Bondville, VT) also found the back of the cage in the first half for the hosts.

Sophomore Amy Misera's (Hunt Valley, MD) increased WPI's lead in the 43rd minute when her shot caromed off the left side of the cage and past the goalkeeper. Richardson aided the tally with a pass from near the right sideline. Junior Mary-Lee Barboza (Rochester, MA), who had a helper in the first stanza, added to the Engineer lead off a feed from sophomore Abby Cervelloni (Charlottesville, VA) at 59:25. Symecko notched her second marker of the game with a one-timer from freshman Allison Buckley (Worcester, MA) with 2:07 left in the half. Becker junior Katherine DiMascio (Braintree, MA) fired off the only shot for the Hawks following their only penalty corner of the game at 43:49.

Senior goalkeeper Liz Dufresne (Worcester, MA) and sophomore Lauren Puishys (Oxford, MA) did not have to stop a shot for the Engineers. Senior netminder Samantha Jo-Dilkes (Little Falls, NJ) turned away 12 shots in the first 35 minutes while sophomore Gabrielle Gallo (Northport, NY) stopped 13 in the second half for Becker. Senior back Carolyn Steinbeiser (Pembroke, MA) added a defensive save at 18:41 as part of a wild sequence that also saw a shot hit the crossbar.

The Engineers claimed a 53-1 margin in shots and a 19-1 differential in penalty corners.

WPI (3-1) embarks upon a four-game road trip beginning Tuesday with a short jaunt across the city to face Worcester State at 7pm.  Becker (0-4) is right back at it tomorrow, hosting Colby-Sawyer at noon.
