Nikolaki, Claverie and Casha Shine for Women's Swimming and Diving in WCC

Worcester, MA --- Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) won the 3-meter diving event and joined Tori Claverie (Derry, NY) and Nysa Casha (Andover, MA) with second-place finishes as the meet host WPI Women's Swimming and Diving team finished in third place at the two-day Worcester City Championships.  

The Crimson and Gray compiled 737.5 points to finish third behind Division II Assumption (1143.5) and Division I Holy Cross (964), but ahead of Clark (520). 

Nikolaki tallied 369.65 points to capture the 3-meter title and amassed 372.50 points on the 1-meter board. Senior Sam Sargalski (Windsor, CT) was fourth on the 3-meter board (289.30) and fifth in the one-meter event (272.70).  

The freshman Claverie did the 50-yard freestyle sprint in 25.89 seconds to finish runner up, while Casha, a junior, did the same in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.26).

Casha also claimed third place in the 200-yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:35.79 

WPI had three relay teams deliver as the 200-yard freestyle, the 400-yard freestyle and the 200-yard medley relays all secured second-place results. 

The 200 freestyle team of Eva Childers (Henniker, NH), Claverie, Amanda Konieczny (West Springfield, MA) and Emily Martin (Penfield, NY) claimed second-place with a time of 1:43.52, and a similar team of Martin, Childers, Casha and Konieczny took second in the 400 freestyle relay in 4:48.11. 

The 400 freestyle relay team came into the final seeded to finish seventh. 

WPI's 200-yard medley relay team came in at 1:55.25. That group included Marissa Patterson (Hampton Falls, NH), Casha, Konieczny and Childers. 

Childers, a freshman, also outperformed the eighth seed in the 400-yard individual medley, taking third place with a time of 4:59.26. 

Senior captain Sonja Kent (West Boylston, MA) claimed the Engineers' final third-place finish with her 500-yard freestyle time of 5:25.70. 

WPI will pick back up Tuesday in a tri-meet at Wheaton College, taking on the host Lyons along with UMass-Dartmouth, with the start scheduled for 6:30pm.
