Box Score Worcester, MA --- Three different WPI field hockey players notched goals and goalkeeper Lauren Puishys (Oxford, MA) registered her eighth career shutout as the Engineers went on the road Tuesday and blanked Johnson & Wales 3-0 in the first-ever matchup between the two programs.
After over a half hour of scoreless hockey, Sabrina Guzzi (Suffield, CT) put WPI ahead 1-0 when she buried a feed from Amy Misera (Hunt Valley, MD) with just 3:08 to go before intermission. It was the sophomore's first marker of the year and second of her career.
The visitors quickly added to their advantage early in the second stanza. Allie Buckley (Worcester, MA) posted her team-leading sixth goal at 40:26 when she burst down the right side and banked one in off the post and past the goalkeeper. WPI pushed the bulge to 3-0 when Abby Cervelloni (Charlottesville, VA) found Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, CT) off a penalty corner for the junior's second goal of the season at 49:04.
Puishys turned away one shot while tallying her first shutout of 2015. Sophomore Jessica Kocur (Mattapoisett, MA) made a pair of strong saves in the first half for the Wildcats.
"It was a great, all-around team effort tonight," commented WPI head coach Lisa Moreau. "We were solid both on offense and defense."
WPI was in control through the game, holding a 15-4 edge in shots and attempting 16 of the night's 20 penalty corners.
Both teams are in action next on Saturday morning. WPI hosts NEWMAC rival MIT at 10am as part of Homecoming Weekend while Johnson & Wales ventures to Simmons for an 11am GNAC affair.
