Box Score WORCESTER – Senior Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, CT) scored a pair of first half goals in a 3-0 victory over visiting Anna Maria Saturday at Alumni Stadium. Prior to the contest Shevchuk was presented with her 2015-16 CoSIDA Academic All-America award. Read more HERE.
With the win, the Engineers inch closer to .500 on the year with a 6-7 ledger and the AMCATS slip to 7-9 on the season.
Senior Allie Buckley (Worcester, MA) dented the scoreboard first when she found the bottom left of the cage following a pass from junior Sabrina Guzzi (Suffield, CT) at 17:47. Just over four minutes later, Shevchuk beat traffic from the top of the circle with help from junior Amanda Richards (Wilmington, MA). Junior Izzy Garver (Owls Head, ME) was key in setting up Shevchuk's eighth of the year at 26:47.
Sophomore Sarah Coley (Worcester, MA) accounted for the only AMCAT shot, and shot on-goal, at 62:07. Junior Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, CT) stopped 13 shots and was aided by senior Katherine Albro (Leicester, MA), who made a defensive save.
Freshman Emily Wilson (Malvern, PA) only had to make one stop in her first career start and shutout.
As a team, the Boynton Hillers were awarded all 14 of the game's penalty corners.
WPI plays the middle game of its five-game homestand Tuesday when it hosts Mount Holyoke at 4:30pm. Anna Maria hosts Fitchburg State at 4pm, also on Tuesday.
