Box Score WORCESTER -- Four different players scored goals, including three in the second half, to lift visiting WPI to a 4-1 win over Clark in NEWMAC field hockey action on a chilly Tuesday night at Granger Turf Field.
The Engineers got on the board first with the lone marker of the first half when two-sport star Hope Shevchuk (Burlington, CT) took a feed from Amanda Richards (Wilmington, MA) and banged the back of the cage at 23:31.
Things stayed that way until the opening moments of the second half when Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, MD) notched her tenth goal of the season less than two minutes into the second stanza, knotting the game at 1-1.
The contest wasn't tied for long as WPI freshman Carly Cidado (Easton, MA) slipped a shot past Clark netminder Dani Michaud (Providence, RI) for her second tally of the year just 17 seconds after Barksdale's score.
Cidado's goal kickstarted a WPI flurry of goals that put the game away. Ahead 2-1, Sabrina Guzzi (Suffield, CT) and Allie Buckley (Worcester, MA) tacked on goals to secure the Engineers' third win over the Scarlet and White in the team's last four meetings.
WPI held a slight 7-4 edge in shots but dominated penalty corners, holding a 10-1 advantage.
Karen Noble (Mariaville, ME) didn't need to make any saves to register the win for the visitors, while Michaud and Gaby DeAngelis (Bayville, NY) each had one save for the Cougars.
WPI (5-6, 1-3 NEWMAC) is back in action on Saturday when it hosts No. 20 Wellesley in a NEWMAC matchup at 10am. Clark (5-6, 0-3), meanwhile, gets back into action on Thursday when it visits Worcester State.
