New London, CT --- Justin Marsh (Upper Black Eddy, PA), Brian Amato (Newington, CT), and Pat Lacroix (Salem, NH) all won twice Saturday as WPI split a tri-meet with Bridgewater State and Coast Guard. The Engineers shutout BSU 53-0 in the middle match of the tri before falling to the hosts 24-12 in the night cap.
Amato took a forfeit at 125 pounds to begin the day against Bridgewater State before Lacroix recorded 17-1 a first period tech fall at 133. Pete Nash (Liverpool, NY) and Jack Nigro (Closter, NJ) then posted back-to-back first periods pins at 141 and 149 respectively while Graysen DeLuca (Canterbury, CT) tacked on a 19-1 tech fall at 157. Decisions by Marsh at 165 (10-2 major) and Austin Shrewsbury (Westfield, MA) at heavyweight (5-0) were sandwiched between first falls by Lucas Muntz (West Hartford, CT) at 174, Daniel Wensley (Wakefield, MA) at 184 and Michael Curtis (Wells, ME) at 197.
The Crimson and Gray got off to a great start versus their archrival Coast Guard, jumping out to 9-0 advantage via a 8-4 victory by Amato and a forfeit win from Lacroix at 133. The hosts then captured seven of last eight bouts with Marsh recording WPI's other triumph by collecting a 10-5 decision at 165.
WPI, who is now 13-9 on the season, closes out the regular season next Saturday at Springfield with a tri-match with Williams.
