Regionally-Ranked Volleyball Splits With Hamilton and Amherst at Hall of Fame Invitational

Amherst, MA --- The WPI women's volleyball team split a pair of matches at the Hall of Fame Invitational Saturday. The Engineers began the day with a 3-2 (25-22, 14-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-13) triumph over Hamilton and wrapped up the two-day event with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-12, 25-13) setback to Amherst. Senior Victoria Nassar (Atkinson, NH) was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Engineers, who are ninth in the initial NCAA Division III New England Regional Rankings, earned their 20th win for the third time in four seasons under head coach Greg Poole. Hamilton moves to 7-11 and Amherst, the 12th-ranked team on the regional scroll, is 16-4 following their respective matches versus the Crimson and Gray.

Sophomores Amanda Wetmore (Hudson, NH) and Sarah Kwatinetz (Seattle, WA) each amassed 10 kills followed by senior Casey Hunt (Granby, CT) and junior Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA) with nine apiece in the victory. Nassar recorded a match-high 21 digs to go with 15 from sophomore Kate Amrein (Nashua, NH), 14 from Mullins, and 13 from Hunt. Senior Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) doled out 40 assists and totaled 11 digs.

The Continentals were paced by sophomore Emma Parkhurst (Centennial, CO) with 13 kills, 17 digs and 21 assists. Senior Meghan Wilkinson (Raleigh, NC) and sophomore Nikki Matsuoka (Honolulu, HI) each had an assist-dig double-double with 17 and 14, and 11 and 20, respectively. Senior Claire Kitz (Commerce, MI), sophomore Dorothy Poucher (Jacksonville, FL) and freshman Jane Fanning (Needham, MA) each tallied 10 kills in the effort.

Bakhtyari delivered another double-double, this time with 15 assists and 10 digs, in the finale versus the host Mammoths. Nassar also had 10 digs and Junior Kassidy Utheim (Monroe Township, NJ) totaled three block assists.

Junior Cameron Hendricks (Glastonbury, CT) and sophomore Jamie Dailey (Newport Coast, CA) combined for Amherst's 25 kills. Senior Hayes Honea (Redondo Beach, CA) and freshman Skyleur Savage (San Jose, CA) each recorded 11 digs and junior Charlotte Duran (Newport Beach, CA) dished off 38 of 41 assists.

WPI returns to Harrington Auditorium Tuesday for a Senior Night match versus Clark beginning at 7pm. Hamilton heads to Middlebury Friday for a 7pm NESCAC contest and Amherst travels to Coast Guard for a 7pm meeting on Tuesday.
