Chicopee, MA -- Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA) notched a goal and an assist to highlight a five-goal second half as the WPI field hockey team remained unbeaten with a 5-0 shutout over host Elms on Saturday afternoon.  The Engineers are now 3-0 on the young season while Elms slips to 0-4. 

WPI attempted all 14 shots in the opening half of play but had nothing to show for it as Nora Newman (Woburn, MA) made six of her nine saves in the opening 35 minutes to keep the game scoreless.  

The Engineers, however, scored five times on 19 shots in the second half to pick up the win. Sullivan got WPI on the board at 39:38 when she buried home a feed from Angie Ferro (Northboro, MA).  WPI put the game out of reach when Sullivan set up Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) at 44:53 and was followed by an unassisted goal off the stick of Emma Bennett (Hampstead, NH) less than three minutes later at 47:10. 

Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) pushed the advantage to 4-0 in the 55th minute following a nifty pass by Shannon Hynes (Auburn, MA) and Julia Vanderstreet (West Bridgewater, MA) closed out the scoring with an unassisted marker at 61:36. 

WPI goalkeepers Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, MA) and Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH) combined for the shutout with Mushrall making the only save of the day for the Crimson and Gray during her 61:36 of work.  Erin Thibodeau (East Longmeadow, MA) made a pair of stops in net for the Blazers in relief of Newman. 

For the game, the guests a 33-4 edge in shots and a 20-4 bulge in penalty corners. 

WPI is back in action Thursday when they entertain Worcester State at 7pm in its home opener.  Elms ventures to Sage for a 8pm match-up on Wednesday.
