Cambridge, MA --- The WPI women's swimming and diving team raced against top competition on Saturday at MIT, competing in a double dual meet with the host Engineers, as well as Bowdoin. The Enginners fell to MIT 245-55 and dropped a 194-103 decision to the Polar Bears.
Overall, the Crimson and Gray tallied six top-five finishes on the afternoon, including four in individual events. Morgan Foltz (North Easton, MA) led the way, accounting for a pair of top placements, taking second in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.79) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.92).
Willa Royce-Roll (Ithaca, NY) and Katherine Pawlak (Westford, MA) also highlighted the WPI finishes with top performances. Royce-Roll was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.66) and Pawlak took fourth in the 50-yard freestyle (24.52), as well as sixth in the 100-yard freestyle (54.62).
In the relay events, the Engineers took fourth in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Pawlak, Chonlada DiMascolo (Puyallup, WA), Audrey Dino (St. Louis, MO), and Molly Sykes (Falmouth, MA) combined to finish in 3:45.11. The 200-yard freestyle medley team of Leah Kolb (Canton, MI), Elinor Ross (Brandon, VT), Pawlak, Foltz also fared well, finishing fifth in their event in 1:51.82.
WPI will next compete at home, hosting the three-day Gompei Invitational beginning on the morning of Friday, December 3rd.
